Energy reform remains a key challenge for the State. To ensure consumers can access affordable, secure, reliable and sustainable energy, the Government must ensure that its policies create a viable and sustainable market for private and public generators and retailers. These pressures signal more reform to come in the industry.

As the technology transition continues, and regulatory reforms gather pace, energy businesses will need to negotiate more complex legal issues - from generation, transmission and distribution to storage and supply.

We have experience across the entire lifecycle of energy projects – from planning and financing right through to construction, operation and decommissioning. As a full-service law firm, we help participants in the energy sector address legal issues related to financing, insurance, taxation, competition, property and planning, electricity and gas purchase contracts, agreements for transmission, supply, transportation and storage. We also help businesses navigate the complexities of third-party infrastructure access, operations agreements, and dispute resolution issues.

We have helped the State Government develop new legislation and have assisted the private sector to deal with electricity reform. This means we are well placed to help your organisation address the regulatory requirements and implications of taking our State’s resources to market.

We have a particular interest in renewable and distributed energy resources, advising project proponents and customers on their particular regulatory and commercial issues, and helping government and industry members develop their thinking on the required regulatory reforms.

Our clients include gas and electricity producers, buyers and sellers, pipeline and network companies, alternative energy companies, and energy consumers.
