At Jackson McDonald, our goal is that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people feel a sense of belonging when engaging with us as clients, employees, partners or suppliers, and we actively seek out advice from local community representatives who can help to ensure we create a culturally safe environment and we drive positive ongoing change.
Over the next two years and into the future, we will strive to further embed reconciliation into all aspects of our business and the legal landscape more broadly through a variety of initiatives and activities, as outlined but not limited to our RAP.
We are pleased to be supporting the Bilya Boorn Scholarship in 2025. The Bilya Boorn Scholarship was established in 2024 and is a joint initiative of a number of major WA commercial law firms providing scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to study law at a Western Australian university. Applications for 2025 are now closed.
Throughout the year we participate in a number of initiatives an events to support reconciliation with our staff, clients and within the community. National Reconciliation Week will take place from May 27th to June 3rd, with the theme "Bridging Now to Next," urging Australians to look ahead and continue the push towards a more united and respectful nation, guided by past lessons.
During National Reconciliation Week we are proud to be involved in the Street Banner Program along St Georges Terrace. This year, showcasing the artwork by the talented Western Australian Aboriginal Noongar artist, Darryl Dempster.
