Phillip practices insurance law and commercial litigation in the areas of professional indemnity, D&O insurance, property and business interruption.
Phillip provides legal support on matters for insurance companies and mutuals in respect of claims against solicitors, directors and officers, barristers, accountants, engineers, financial advisors, real estate agents, valuers and other professionals. This has included conducting successful trials in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.
Phillip is a panel solicitor for Law Mutual (WA), and has enjoyed working with them in the defence of solicitor claims for over a decade.
He also advises clients on property damage and business interruption events, with examples including gas turbine breakdown, fire and petroleum remediation, agricultural refrigeration failure arising from storm activity, advice on the cancellation of a major music festival and advice on the cancellation of a reality TV show.
Phillip has an active interest in the law and has delivered presentations and published articles on a number of subjects including the Insurance Contracts Act, proportionate liability, risk management and contractual interpretation. Each year, Phillip delivers risk management presentations to the Insureds of Law Mutual (WA) as part of its annual risk management education series.
